Cedric Soares admits he was all set to pen new terms with Sporting CP before Southampton came knocking.

The fullback joined Saints over the summer.

Soares told Correio da Manha: "I was in talks to renew my contract, then the opportunity arose to go to Southampton.

"So we decided to evaluate the option.

"It was the best choice for everyone, not just economically but also for my career."
