Southampton fullback Ryan Bertrand feels Kevin de Bruyne wasn't given a fair chance at Chelsea.

Bertrand was speaking before De Bruyne's Manchester City thumped Saints on Saturday.

"If you have trained with Kevin, like me, then you know that he already was a special football player," Bertrand told The Sun.

"From the moment he arrived at Chelsea, he showed great things on the training pitch. He dazzled us sometimes. Kevin can create goals and score them. He now shows this at the highest level.

"It's easy to say that he has become much better, but to be honest, Kevin always has been outstanding.

"He never had the opportunity at Chelsea for one reason or another."
