Southampton fullback Ryan Bertrand says parent club Chelsea now handle their loanees better.
Chelsea have former assistant manager Eddie Newton in charge of overseeing the 20-plus Blues players on-loan this season across Europe.
"It's better now," Bertrand told the Telegraph.
"They've got Eddie Newton, who relays on a regular basis. But back then it was new to them. Me and the likes of Jack Cork and Scott Sinclair were the first generation of young players starting to go out on loan. It was a learning curve for everyone."
