Southampton have failed with a new bid for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo.
Saints had a bid of €11 million turned down by Sporting last weekend for the Argentina international.
Lisbon media sources say the Premier League club have since returned with an improved €12 million offer for Rojo - which was again thrown out.
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is keen to bring Rojo, who can play at left-back and centre-half, to the south coast this month.
Sporting are prepared to sell Rojo and are expected to part with the defender before the market deadline falls.
