Southampton deserved draw at Spurs says Puel

Southampton boss Claude Puel feels his side at least deserved a draw from their clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Saints conceded twice in the first half at White Hart Lane, allowing Christian Eriksen to fire home from distance, before Steven Davis gave away a penalty to Dele Alli which the midfielder converted.

James Ward-Prowse pulled one goal back in the second half but is what not quite enough in a match that perhaps could have ended differently if for a bit of luck to the visiting team.

"I think it was a good performance without a good result. It was a strange first-half because we have taken two goals without pressure from the opponent," Puel told Southamptonfc.com.

"It was difficult at half-time to come back into the dressing room having let in two goals.

"The second goal, the penalty is difficult to accept because we could not make the change of Shane (Long) with the injury to (Manolo) Gabbiadini.

"If the referee gives this penalty then he can do the same at the other end with Dušan Tadić.

"That was important and could have made a difference because I think both teams played at a good level. For me, a draw would have been normal."
