Southampton calm regarding influx of new players - Reed

Southampton executive director of football Les Reed says the club are looking to strike a balance in terms of the quality and quantity of players available to manager Ronald Koeman.

Southampton have had to once again go through a rebuilding process of their squad following the departures of some key players and the south coast clubhave moved quickly to sign a couple of quality replacements in the form of Jordy Clasie, Juanmi, Cedric Soares, Cuco Martina and Maarten Stekelenburg.

Now Reed has shed light on Southampton's transfer plans this summer and has stated that the Saints are looking to strike a balance in their squad regarding the quality and number of players available for Koeman to choose from.

Reed told the Daily Echo: "Ronald and I have discussed it, and we're both on the same page where that's concerned. I think a lot will depend on the progress of the young players that we've got, and the reports back at the moment are that they're progressing really well.

"So I think there's a balance to be struck between a sizeable squad and actually having the right players in the right positions and the right cover for when you need it.

"I don't hear Jose Mourinho complaining that he didn't use a lot of players last year and [he] still won the Premier League, because I think Chelsea are one of those clubs who manage it very well, so I think it's about managing it."
