Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino refused to blame Adam Lallana's injury on his England commitments.
Although Lallana suffered the problem in the first of the two England friendly matches that he started, Pochettino waved away any suggestions that he might have been unhappy at Roy Hodgson using the player for the subsequent game against Germany.
"No, I don't want any type of controversy with anyone," he said.
"I'm very happy that he was part of the English national side, I'm very happy for him.
"We just thought in the second half he was struggling physically, and that's why we made the decision to change him."
