Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino has rubbished critics of his England striker Ricki Lambert.
Lambert scored in his first two international appearances but came under fire for drawing a blank in Tuesday's World Cup qualifying draw with Ukraine.
Pochettino said: "Which players played well against Ukraine?
"It was a different level of opposition. After the Moldova game Rickie was the best player in the world and after Ukraine he was nowhere.
"But he knows it is his performances for Southampton that got him into the national team so we hope he'll continue scoring goals for Southampton to keep getting called up."
