Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino denies fizzing out Gaston Ramirez after his agent's comments last week.
Ramirez was missing for their draw at Manchester United just days after his agent had criticised Pochettino.
"He was ill and the medical staff said he should rest until we assess him on Monday. I have two good strikers so Lambert did not start today. But I congratulate him on how he is playing this season and there will be other times he will play."
