Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino apologised after confronting ref Mark Clattenburg at the end of their 0-0 draw with Norwich City.
He could find himself facing a disciplinary charge from the Football Association after coming onto the pitch after the final whistle to confront Clattenburg and his officials.
"In that moment, you cannot really control your emotions, you are angry, my pulse was really high because I thought it was unfair to us and never a penalty," Pochettino said.
"I know I should not have been on the pitch and I apologise, but sometimes you can lose control a little bit.
"However, I know that us managers must control ourselves - sometimes I feel I am playing the game on the sidelines."
