Mauricio Pellegrino has refused to comment on speculation linking Southampton with Lazio centre-back Wesley Hoedts.

Sky in Italy reported yesterday that the Saints had lodged a bid of £15.5m for the Dutchman.

"I know the player, but I will not talk about the market," said the Saints manager.

"When you sign and you pay the player is for you, before that I have nothing to say.

"Right now, as you know, we have to be ready for a player to help us in the back four."
