Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is delighted for Jose Fonte over his Portugal call-up.
At 30, it is Fonte's first call to the Portugal squad.
Koeman said: "It's never too late but it's different than Clyney because Jose is some years older and waiting more time and maybe he didn't expect that.
"He was surprised when I gave him a call last week on Friday afternoon but that was only the pre-list.
"Now I was happy to bring good news about the final list and he was very happy and that's great news for the player because it's the best to play for your national team."
