Southampton boss Mark Hughes urged fans to be upbeat after their 0-0 draw with Burnley.
Hughes insists they could take positives from the performance.
Hughes said: "I thought we got better as the game went on. We changed it in the second and had any number of chances to win the game.
"We got on the front foot, stopping them hitting balls into the channel. We needed a bit of luck but overall I'm reasonably pleased.
"There's no need for us to be apprehensive. We're a good group of players here and we always want maximum points. We weren't quite able to do that today but I was encouraged."
On Danny Ings' debut, he added: "You saw Danny's clever play today, linking and retaining possession. He allowed us to move further up the field and that augurs well. We're looking forward to getting him up to speed."
