Southampton boss Hughes hopeful Austin buoyed after Brighton winner

Mark Hughes is hopeful Charlie Austin will kick on now after the Englishman scored in Southampton's 1-0 win over Brighton in the Carabao Cup second round.

Austin's 88th minute header was his first goal in 11 games. And Hughes wants the 29-year-old to take some confidence into the Saints' next match.

"It's important for Charlie," said Hughes. "He's struggled a bit in terms of creating chances and taking chances. It just affected his confidence a little bit but that will do him a world of good," Hughes said.

"We need Charlie getting shots off and testing goalkeepers and when he's in that vein of form then he'll always score goals."
