Southampton boss eager for Rodriguez to return before season's end

Ronald Koeman admits he would love to see Jay Rodriguez return to his line-up prior to the end of the Premier League season.

The 25-year old striker has missed the entire campaign after injuring his ACL (knee) in April last year but is back working with his teammates ahead of a possible return for the final fixture of the term, coincidentally against Manchester City, the team he sustained the injury against.

However, Koeman says it is more important for Rodriguez to look ahead to next season rather than rushing back for no apparent reason.

"I hope that he can play a part in one of them maybe last one," Koeman said. "Maybe it will be on one side a tough one (to return in) because it is Man City and he got this injury against them.

"That will be nice to end the season but the focus has to be next season and if he is part of one or two games this season it will be great for him, great for the team, great for the club.

"He is putting everything in to get back, but we are not in a hurry. If he comes back he has to be 100 per cent and that's most important."
