Southampton are launching a bid for Cagliari defender Davide Astori.

The Mirror says the Saints have been leaky at the back in their first season back in the top flight, conceding 37 goals in 19 games, and also see £8m-rated Astori as the answer to their problems.

But Adkins will face competition from Napoli and Juventus for the 25-year-old's signature.
