South Korea's Hong: Ex-Man Utd midfielder Park will not play at World Cup

South Korea national team boss Hong Myung-bo has made it clear that Park Ji-sung will not be a part of his World Cup squad.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who is currently on loan at PSV Eindhoven from QPR, had been linked with a possible international return ahead of the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

However, Hong said last week that the 32-year old former Taeguk Warriors captain will not be included in the squad that will compete against Belgium, Algeria and Russia in Group H but could still play some sort of off-field role with the team.

"I had a frank conversation with Park. I decided to respect his decision that he is unable to return to the national team as his knees are not in a good condition," said Hong.

"Park will not play at the Brazil World Cup. But he said he will help the team however he can. Nothing is set on how he will provide assistance."

South Korea next take on Greece in a March 5 friendly in Athens.
