Choi Hang-kee has been named the new manager of the South Korean national team.
The 52-year old comes into the Taeguk Warriors setup as the replacement for Cho Kwang-rae who was relieved of his duties earlier this month.
The South Korean Football Association (KFA) were being linked with possible moves for recently-sacked Sunderland manager Steve Bruce along with Sven-Goran Eriksson and Luiz Felipe Scolari but has opted for Choi who has departed his role at K-League club Jeonbuk Motors.
"He has a ton of coaching experiences and is a great motivator. Also, he has a deep understanding of Korean football.
"I personally met coach Choi three times to persuade him. We had some candidates from overseas but Choi was our top choice." "We valued the ability to stabilise the national team and maximise players' capabilities over a short period of time," the head of KFA's technical committee Hwangbo Kwan told The Korea Times.
