South African defender Evans on trial with Portland Timbers

Portland Timbers have taken South African defender Brett Evans on trial as they look to improve on their poor start to thee 2012 MLS campaign.

Timbers head coach John Spencer revealed that the 30-year old, who can also operate as a midfielder, is keen to head over the USA with Portland offering him a week-long trial.

"He's looking to move to the US (and) we'll have a look at him," Spencer said. "He'll be here for a week and see where we go."

Evans has played his entire senior career for Ajax Cape Town and has also represented South Africa's national team, Bafana Bafana, on eight occasions.
