Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has admitted his surprise at Brendan Rodgers' sacking.
The Anfield club's owner Fenway Sports Group made the decision to terminate the contract of the Northern Irishman following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Rodgers took the reins at Liverpool in the summer of 2012 but his rein on the red side of the Mersey is now over, much to the astonishment of Souness, who criticised his former club for not holding on to their very best players.
"I'm stunned," Souness said on Sky Sports.
"They gave him a load of money in the summer and I find it amazing.
"But with all due respect I don't see why they gave Brendan Rodgers the job in the first place.
"Liverpool go out and buy the best young players, develop them and then hope to sell them. They have become a selling club."
