Son of ex-West Ham striker Bunbury tipped for big things in US

The son of former West Ham United striker Alex Bunbury is being tipped for big things. Teal Bunbury is starring Akron college, where he is the nation's leading goal-scorer with 17, he was named this season's Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and Thursday he was among 15 semifinalists named for the Hermann Trophy, the award given to the nation's top collegiate player.

And his father admits that although his son might have patterned his game after him, at age 19, Teal has potential to be the best Bunbury yet.

"He's a more natural goal-scorer than I was," Alex Bunbury told cleveland.com. "I know people are going to make comparisons and things of that nature. I'm honored and humbled by that. He is his own man, and I'm so proud of him. I'm honored to be his dad."

Ex-Canada international Alex is keen for his son to keep his feet on the ground as clubs around the world begin to circle.

He added: "Let anything that's going to come, come after that. I'd be lying if I told you my phone hasn't been ringing off the hook in terms of people who are interested and saying they can make him go here or there. He's going to be in a good situation one way or another."
