Soler to step in to NYRB sporting director role

Former Norway international Erik Soler has claimed he is the new sporting director at the New York Red Bulls.

The 49-year old was closely linked with the role and announced on a Champions League broadcast yesterday that he had been hired by the MLS club.

The ex-Lillestrom, SK Brann and Hamburg midfielder looks set to step into the role which will be overseen by his former Bundesliga mate Dietmar Beiersdorfer who is the sporting director for all of Red Bull football.

It has also been reported that Soler has former Norway national team coach Åge Hareide on a shortlist to fill the vacant coaching position at New York.
