Solano confident things will change for the better at Newcastle

Nolberto Solano believes Newcastle United are capable of bouncing back from their recent poor form and return to the top of English football.

The Magpies find themselves on the bottom of the Premier League table after four matches following last season's 10th-place finish bur the former midfielder is confident of a revival on Tyneside.

>. Former Peru star Solano, who had two spells at St James' Park between 1998 and 2004 and 2005 and 2007, has seen firsthand how things can turn around very quickly at a club like Newcastle and is expecting the same to happen this season.

'Life can be difficult at St James' Park but the Newcastle United job remains a brilliant opportunity,' he wrote in article for The Chronicle.

'Let's get one thing straight - Newcastle United is not an impossible job.

'I have been at the club when they are bottom of the table and know how difficult it can be. The last time Newcastle were bottom Bobby Robson came in and led the club to the top four within two years.

'So things can change when the chips are down.

'What I will say is you need to have a knowledge of the city, the fans and the club. It is important you have a feel for the place.

'At the moment there are a lot of new faces at the club and they will be getting to know how life is here.'

Solano also touched further on his time under Robson, which occurred when Ruud Gullit and Alan Shearer were present, and feels that the current squad can climb out of the mire just as they did under the Toon legend.

'Bobby Robson wanted to build things up gradually. Gullit did not have a good relationship with some members of the team, especially with Alan, but he resolved things by using his experience,' he added.

'He changed those things slowly and eventually the little things became big things and the whole place was transformed. Once the team became solid again we slowly recovered and climbed out of the relegation zone.

'There was a happy ending so nothing is impossible.'
