Sol Campbell still without a club after Newcastle pull out

Ex-England defender Sol Campbell is still in the football wilderness after the club he was most heavily linked with ended their interest in him.

The 35-year old seemed a good chance to land at Newcastle United once he officially became a free agent following his premature exit from Notts County but the Championship club have rejected the chance to sign him.

Campbell said he would most likely be eligible to sign with a club once the transfer window opens in January but admits he is no closer to finding a home.

"The paperwork is now with Notts County, an agreement has been reached, but as yet they haven't signed the documents and sent them off to the Football League. I am waiting for that to happen," the former Tottenham, Arsenal and Portsmouth centre-half said.

"My guess is that it will somehow coincide with the opening of the transfer window, and I will be free to play in about three weeks' time. Where I am going to play? Well, that is interesting.

"I have a few clubs tabling offers at the moment, but one of them doesn't seem to be Newcastle now."
