Socceroos hopeful Ryan: Ex-Liege, Benfica keeper Preud'homme a great tutor

Club Brugge goalkeeper Mat Ryan admits he is lucky to have a former top gloveman as his main mentor.

The 21-year old Australian, who is chasing a spot in the Socceroos' 2014 World Cup squad, has been working closely with Brugge manager Michel Preud'homme since he replaced Juan Carlos Garrido last week and is looking forward to learning even more from the former Standard Liege and Benfica custodian.

"To be coached by a goalkeeper who is such a Belgian legend is unbelievable," Ryan said of the former Belgium international.

"He was one of the best in the world in his time.

"Many goalkeepers would be privileged to have such a legend as their coach.

"Usually when a new coach comes in everybody is a bit edgy but he stuck with me and it looks like I'm going to remain the club's top goalkeeper.

"I worked hard to be a regular after coming here not knowing how many games I would play.

"But as long as I do not give him a reason to drop me I should keep playing.

"Hopefully, after the great career he's had, Preud'homme will guide me to better things in the future."
