The Socceroos scored a late injury time goal to snatch all three points in Bahrain overnight. Mark Bresciano's 93rd minute strike gave the Aussies full points and kept them on top of the Group A table in Asian qualifying.
Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek said his side was fortunate to come away with a 1-0 win.
"I cannot say that I'm not happy with the three points, because I'm very happy with the three points," Verbeek said.
"Especially because we didn't deserve to have three points today.
"I think a point should have been already very good for us and if you have three you can only say that you are lucky to win.
"But come February, we will need to play much better when we face Japan, because that will be a difficult match also", concluded Verbeek.
The Socceroos are now three wins from three starts so far in the World Cup qualifying campaign and sit two points clear of Japan who scored a 3-0 win over Qatar in Doha whilst Uzbekistan had the bye.
Australia next play Japan on February 11 2009 in Yokohama.
