Socceroos eyeing Asian Cup match in Townsville

Football Federation Australia are considering a proposal submitted by North Queensland Fury chairman Don Matheson to hold a Socceroos match in Townsville.

Head of the A-League, Archie Fraser said that the FFA was seriously pondering holding an Asian Cup game in the region next year, potentially in March.

"We see all the work he is doing from a community perspective and taking the games to areas like North Queensland, we're certainly going to take a serious look at it," he said. "(We'll) look at how it weighs up and what potential opposition we could bring up there to play a Socceroo game, which would be great for the northern area, there's no question.

"What'll be discussed is where we play, the time of year and a whole range of stuff."
