Smoke alert halts League Two game for 45 minutes

A smoke grenade found at St James' Park stopped Exeter City's League Two clash with Carlisle United for more than an hour.

The Stagecoach Stand was evacuated just 10 minutes into the match when stewards were alerted of smoke emanating from the stand as fans were directed onto the pitch.

The game, which had kicked off at 3:00pm, resumed at 4:18pm and ended in a 2-2 draw with Carlisle twice coming from behind to equalise.

A Carlisle United supporter was arrested by police in relation to the disturbance.
