Smith unhappy with Newcastle booing

Newcastle United striker Alan Smith shrugged off the boos from fans on Saturday.

Smith took the man of the match award for the defeat by Liverpool which was booed by home fans.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "Everybody is entitled to their opinion. But I know that I am doing my job no matter what position I play in. Every time I cross the white line I will give 100% and everybody knows that.

"I don't think fans were having a go at players too much, the fans just want to do well so badly.

"We are the ones who can turn it round and can't blame fans too much for being disappointed.

"The fans went there with expectations high looking for a big performance, and it didn't happen. It's not nice because you want your fans behind you, but we must put that right."
