Alan Smith admits everyone is waiting to see what sort of reaction they receive from the Newcastle United crowd tonight against Arsenal.
Smith told the Evening Chronicle: "Hopefully they will get behind us and we can give them something to cheer about against Arsenal. They are great supporters and they turn out every week.
"We would rather have 50,000 booing then nobody there at all.
"You could never perform at your best in an empty stadium. They deserve something.
"We had 6,000 at Blackburn, but we want to give them something to cheer about now."
