Alan Smith isn't ready to give up on his Newcastle United career.

With the club yet to indicate that he is surplus to requirements and the player himself settled in the area, it appears as if he will continue at St James' Park until at least the end of the season.

A source close to Smith told The Journal: "Alan doesn't want to move anywhere. I think he'd prefer to be playing - which is obvious - but he is happy at Newcastle United and is just desperate to get his place back as soon as possible."
