Smith delighted with new Rangers hero Darcheville

Rangers boss Walter Smith is delighted with the way Jean-Claude Darcheville has quickly settled at Ibrox.

"Jean-Claude is a good character and a big personality," said the Rangers manager yesterday. "He is comparable with Dado Prso in that respect. Every team has a few players of that type, but sometimes it is not easy for a foreign player to come in and do it.

"But Jean-Claude has settled in right away. He is an experienced player, a confident lad and it's fair to say he is not the shy and retiring type off the pitch. He is a good type to have around.

"He wants to win all the time, which is an important characteristic for any player at this club, and he has got an edge to him. It was just a pity he had a slow start to the season on the pitch because of that Achilles injury. It has cleared up now and we are seeing the best of him.

"There were a few candidates in the team to take the penalty kick against Stuttgart, with Kris Boyd not being on the pitch, but Jean-Claude was keen to take it and I was pleased to see him do so."
