Smith content with Rangers Europa League draw

Rangers boss Walter Smith was happy with his side's performance in last night's Europa League clash with PSV Eindhoven.

'Gers went to Holland and got a goalless draw in the first leg of the Round of 16 stage, setting up a grandstand finish for the return leg at Ibrox next Thursday.

Smith said it was a pleasing result to keep PSV, b far the heaviest scorers in the Dutch Eredivisie, to a clean sheet.

"We are very pleased with the result," he said.

"We expected the type of game we got. We knew we would have to defend very well and we managed to do so.

"We are very pleased with the outcome. We had one or two bits of luck and there were one or two poor finishes but overall we were excellent in terms of restricting PSV's opportunities. We've got to be happy with the outcome tonight."

Smith was well aware that the second leg would involve his team looking to score more often but kept in mind that Fred Rutten's men would be coming to Glasgow for the win.

"In the second leg, a lot depends on circumstances of the match. We will have to do more attacking," he added.

"For them the away goal is a big thing. We will approach the game with the same care and levels of concentration as we did this one. PSV will be as dangerous, if not more so, at Ibrox."
