Yeovil Town chief Terry Skiverton has recalled Ryan Mason's time with the Glovers.
The Tottenham midfielder is expected to earn a first England cap against Italy on Tuesday.
Skiverton told the Daily Star Sunday: "He came to me as a No 10. He was highly gifted but not very strong. Highly technical, but really slight.
"I played him in central midfield because he could spot a pass and find the strikers but he also had a tremendous workrate.
"He got about the pitch and never pulled out of a tackle - and he's stuck there ever since. I'm convinced he will do very well for England as well as Spurs."
