Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid has revealed the reasons for the departure of Christian Sivebaek.
The 24-year old Danish midfielder joined the Sounders from Midtjylland in January but only had a very brief stay with the club, leaving recently after he failed to attract regular game time.
Schmid says that a few injuries early in his time in Seattle put Sivebaek on the back foot and he was never able to recover enough to command a starting position in the Sounders line-up.
"It just didn't work out from a standpoint of early on he got some minutes, but he missed a lot of preseason with little niggling injuries that set him back," Schmid said.
"He got some opportunities in games early on that he didn't take advantage of and then overall there were guys that we thought had pushed past him in terms of what we saw at training.
"Sometimes, for whatever reason, things don't work out. The timing was wrong. It was just a decision that we felt was best in his interest and our interest at the time."
