Sir Bobby urges Man City to raid Barcelona for Messi

Former Barcelona boss Sir Bobby Robson has urged money-bags Manchester City to go for Argie whiz Lionel Messi.

Former Barcelona boss Sir Bobby Robson has urged money-bags Manchester City to go for Argie whiz Lionel Messi.

In his column for the Mail on Sunday, Robson wrote: "Mark Hughes played for Barcelona and if I were the Manchester City manager and looking to spend his Arab owners’ money in January, that's where I would look first.

"Not many clubs can afford to splash out in the next transfer window but City can, and if the owners allow Mark £100million to spend on one player, I'd go straight to the Camp Nou and see how much it would take to sign Lionel Messi.

"In my view, Messi is the finest young player in the world alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, able to win matches on his own. If you're City, looking to be a big club, you need the best - and Messi is the best."
