Sir Bobby Robson has made an emotional plea to unsettled Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given.
In his column for the Mail on Sunday, Geordie legend Robson wrote: "Nobody has given more to Newcastle United over the past 10 years than Shay Given. Absolutely nobody.
"Now I'm asking him for one final act of selflessness - to stay another five months and keep Newcastle in the Premier League.
"Shay was everything you could ask for from a professional footballer when I was manager. Brave, courageous, a great trainer and a positive influence in the dressing room.
"He had one weakness, his kicking, so he spent hours on the training ground until it became a strength. Now everyone at Newcastle needs him to be strong again.
"Most players would be condemned by their fans for putting in what is effectively a transfer request while the club are in peril. But Newcastle fans have only sympathy for Shay."
