Sir Bobby: Man Utd back to their best

Sir Bobby Robson says there's two big positives for Manchester United after their victory at Sunderland.

In his column for the Mail on Sunday, Robson wrote: "Nemanja Vidic was once again a colossus at the back, showing his recent performance against Liverpool was just a blip in an otherwise outstanding season.

"But my vote for Player of the Season would go to his teammate, Wayne Rooney. I have questioned Rooney's behaviour on occasions, particularly playing for England, but yesterday we saw the best of him.

"He was the star of the show, playing with commitment, artistry and discipline. The transformation in United in just a few days was remarkable. I watched one of my favourite players, Michael Carrick, against Porto and he looked a bit leggy.

"Several players appeared to be a bit fatigued mentally and when the mind gets tired, the passing begins to go. Squad players Ji-sung Park and Darren Fletcher looked short of being top quality, the quality you need to win a grand slam.

"But United put many doubts to rest yesterday. They knew it was a big game, a game they had to win. And they did so more convincingly than the 2-1 scoreline would suggest."
