Simpson still hopes to settle new terms with Newcastle

Danny Simpson remains hopeful of finding an agreement over a new deal with Newcastle United.

The Evening Chronicle says Simpson is thought to have agreed a four-and-a-half year deal, but there is a "discrepancy" in the personal terms over how his salary will be paid - hence the reason for the reluctance to sign the contract offered by United.

A source close to Simpson said: "He doesn't want to be anywhere but Newcastle United.

"He has agreed to the terms of the contract, but it is how the salary will be paid that has caused the hesitancy.

"Danny has a great relationship with the manager and all of the players at Newcastle, and he has a fantastic rapport with the fans too. He is happy in Newcastle."
