Danny Simpson remains hopeful of finding an agreement over a new deal with Newcastle United.
The Evening Chronicle says Simpson is thought to have agreed a four-and-a-half year deal, but there is a "discrepancy" in the personal terms over how his salary will be paid - hence the reason for the reluctance to sign the contract offered by United.
A source close to Simpson said:
"He has agreed to the terms of the contract, but it is how the salary will be paid that has caused the hesitancy.
"Danny has a great relationship with the manager and all of the players at Newcastle, and he has a fantastic rapport with the fans too. He is happy in Newcastle.""He doesn't want to be anywhere but Newcastle United.
