Danny Simpson feels Newcastle United can finish above Liverpool this season.

The Magpies defender said: "It's tough to go to Anfield at any time, so we know how difficult this Friday is going to be.

"But with the win against Bolton we've got a little bit more confidence and have got our belief back again, so we will go there full of confidence.

"We don't see any reason why we can't go there and upset them.

"Liverpool are a point ahead of us but if we go there and things go our way then we will be above them going into the New Year.

"It's a big chance for us to make a statement."
