Simoni urges Inter Milan president Moratti to stick with Benitez

Former Inter Milan coach Gigi Simoni says the club needs to back Rafa Benitez.

Simoni famously came very close to the Scudetto in 1998, but was surprisingly dismissed a few months into the next campaign, on the day he picked up the Coach of the Year Award.

"Massimo Moratti is a reliable person and if he has said repeatedly that he won't sack Benitez, then we should believe him," Simoni told Calciomercato.it.

"Besides, I think Benitez is the least responsible for the situation. He is a good man as well as a great Coach, having won the Champions League with Liverpool and Liga in Spain.

"Unfortunately, Inter are not working in ideal conditions right now. I have never seen so many injuries and even those who do play aren't in good shape because they don't get time to rest.

"If we add to all that a little lack of motivation after the success of the Treble and the fatigue from the World Cup, you can clearly see Benitez is not at fault and nobody could do better in the circumstances."
