Simeone's Atletico Madrid match 17yr unbeaten record

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone led his team to a record breaking result with victory over Real Sociedad.

Simeone has taken his side to 18 games unbeaten in LaLiga after victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday, matching a club record that has stood since the 1990-91 season and was only achieved once before, in 1940-41.

The last time Atlético were defeated was on 25 April, in week 34 of the 2016-17 season, when Villarreal left the Calderón with three points.

The last time Atlético went on an 18-game unbeaten streak was 26 years ago, with Tomislav Ivic in charge of the side and consisted of 12 wins.

In the 1940s and coached by goalkeeping great Ricardo Zamora, Atlético (then Atlético Aviación) also went 18 games unbeaten over the course of almost a year.
