Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Espanyol.
Atletico lost 3-1 at Valencia before the international break to leave the defending Primera Division champions in fifth place, but goals from Tiago and Mario Suarez ensured they returned to winning ways.
The victory saw Atletico move up to fourth with 17 points from eight La Liga games, while Espanyol slipped to 11th with nine points from their eight fixtures.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone said: "I think we played the way we needed to play. We practically controlled the whole game and played in their half. I gave Raúl and Mandzukic time to take up their positions and with Juanfran and Arda we found space on the right. We were patient and the goal came. In the second half our domination of the game was even greater.
"Despite not scoring we did our job and as a result we got stronger in the second half."
