Silva challenges Watford star Deeney to fight for his place

Watford boss Marco Silva says that his skipper Troy Deeney must fight to take back his place in his starting eleven.

The 29-year-old, who has managed only three substitute appearances in the league this season, has lost his place in the Silva's starting XI to summer arrival Andre Gray.

Ahead of the Hornets' trip to Swansea, Silva said: "I believe he wants more like all the others, not just him, and he is working hard for that.

"It is normal that players who stay on the bench, and the ones who don't even make the bench, are frustrated.

"Even if they stay unhappy, what Troy and the others need to show me is that they want to stay in the first XI. He needs minutes in his legs, he needs to work hard during the week – and after that, it is my decision.

"Everything can change in a couple of weeks or months – but it may be that certain players are on the bench because, in my opinion, the players in the team did good work and I am happy with them."
