Sigurdsson targets Champions League with Tottenham

Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed it was an easy decision to join Tottenham and now wants to qualify for the Champions League with his new club.

The Iceland attacking midfielder joined Spurs from Hoffenheim in the summer after an impressive loan with Swansea City last season and he is keen to kick on with the North Londoners and help the club achieve their goal of competing in Europe's premier club competition.

"The ambition of the club is very high and things going on inside the club are great," he told talkSPORT.

"The club finished fourth last season and they are aiming higher this season. It's a great club so it wasn't a hard decision.

"Every footballer wants to play in the Champions League, it's the highest stage.

"Tottenham were very unlucky last year that they didn't get in it when Chelsea won the trophy.

"We're in the Europa League now and the ambition this season is to try and get a Champions League spot.

"The club wants to win trophies and the Euopra League is a great trophy. The manager (Andre Villas-Boas) has won it before with Porto and the squad want to do well in it, so we want to win it."
