Shrewsbury keen to hang onto Liverpool's Ryan

Shrewsbury boss Gary Peters has revealed he is hoping to extend on-loan midfielder James Ryan's stay at New Meadow after he impressed so far.

The 19-year-old has looked good in his three appearances for the Shrews since joining on an initial one-month loan deal from Liverpool.

"He has got a month on loan and Liverpool are very pleased he is here," said Peters.

"We send them DVDs of our games and they have already sent us a letter on how professional we are and the work Jimmy is getting here.

"But he has only played in cup games so we have still got to test him against teams in our division, although I have no doubts at all Jimmy will pass that test when it comes.

"We will now have to see over the next few weeks what happens in the longer term," he added.
