West Bromwich Albion defender Nicky Shorey says the clean slate manager Roy Hodgson has given his squad has worked wonders.
Abdoulaye Meite and Paul Scharner as a major reason behind Albion's impressive start to life under Hodgson.
"Some managers like different players," Shorey told the WBA website.
"A new manager comes in and people get a chance which is nice to see. I think he Abou has taken his chance so far and done really well. It is pleasing because he has always been a good part of the dressing room and the lads love him."
He added: "Scharner has been immense for us.
"He has got good experience, great athleticism and he is a warrior - and we need that especially at this stage of the season. Him and Youssouf helped us with the way they dominated midfield on Saturday.
"We needed a bit more steel.
"We've got players who can win games and score goals and hopefully we can continue that and make sure we lock the back door as well."
