Victor Valdes has laid bare how isolated he felt at Manchester United.
The 34-year-old, now on-loan with Standard Liege, was exiled at United by Louis van Gaal for allegedly refusing to play for the Under-21 side last season.
Valdes was ordered to train alone with academy goalkeeping coach Alan Fettis and was allowed no contact with the senior side at United's Carrington training base.
He told El Pais that he once asked Fettis: “What if I were to hit the post and were to lose consciousness, and if I swallowed my tongue?
"Alan replied, 'I've got my phone in my pocket, I'd call and they'd come to help you'.
"I told Alan, 'I feel very alone'."
