Shittu admits Millwall Premier League stepping stone

Danny Shittu admits his move to Millwall is a stepping stone back into the Premier League.

Former Bolton Wanderers stopper Shittu, who marked Argentina superstar Lionel Messi at the World Cup, says he can still cut it in the top flight - but has not ruled out signing another contract at The Den.

He said: "I know no Millwall fan will be upset for me to say I know I'm a Premier League player.

"I've played in the World Cup, I've played against top-quality players. If you ask Premier League strikers who they fear the most, they would mention me.

"I know I'm one of the best defenders. I've got a lot to prove and I've got many years to go - I'm fit, fast and dominant.

"I know there will be people coming to watch but that's not the main thing - I'm here to play for Millwall to give 100 per cent.

"And I'm here to get three points every game for Millwall. I'm not going to be trying to do skills to impress anyone in the stands.

"It would be great to stay longer but initially it's just a three-month contract and we'll wait and see what happens in the future."
