Andriy Shevchenko was delighted to score for AC Milan in their midweek UEFA Cup win at FC Zurich.
"The Coach and my teammates were happy and complimented me," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
"But what I needed to know was all on the field. I could sense they wanted to help me score a goal, that their enthusiasm was behind me and it was the right time to overcome this stumbling block.
"The atmosphere is fantastic here and you really feel happy.
"I celebrated with lunch at Milanello, where my children came to see me. My family still lives in London for the moment, until the house in Milan is ready, and they came over for the derby and my birthday."
Sheva made no secret of his dissatisfaction with life at Chelsea and fought hard for a return to San Siro just two years after a £30m move.
"I was away for two years and have to win back the fans. Milan supporters were so passionate with me that I feel it will take a while to get them all back on side.
"The goal against Zurich was a start, for me and for them. After the two years I've had, I need to pay back that debt to the supporters, but also to myself.
"This goal was a necessary step, but it wasn't like scoring in a Champions League Final or netting one of those goals that changes your life. It wasn't the goal I dream of yet. We'll talk about that one in a few months."
